Top Outdoor Kitchen Trends in 2020
If the kitchen is the heart of your home, then perhaps you should make the outdoor kitchen the heart of your yard!
In 2020, that’s exactly the trend we have spotted as people have spent more time at home. People long to gather as before, but haven’t felt comfortable heading off to a restaurant. Our clients have sought to create a space where family and friends not only feel welcomed and nourished, but safe too.
This year we noticed clients who want to upgrade and expand. They want to reduce the back-and-forth between their indoor and outdoor kitchens. Clients have felt safe to gather outside, so they naturally wish to reduce the need to have people in the house.
While most people have an outdoor grill, families have added smokers, seating options, bar areas and prep spaces to allow families to commune throughout the evening, not just when dinner was served. Clients want the same gathering experience they have had in their indoor kitchen in the outdoor kitchen area.
In addition to traditional kitchen add-ons, we also have had many requests for fireplaces and fire pits. Both of these not only add atmosphere and encourage gathering, but they also extend the season by adding a source of warmth. As we move into cooler weather, fire features and infrared heaters extend the time for use of our outdoor spaces.
Last winter we received almost no snow so our ability to enjoy and fully use an outdoor kitchen was nearly year-round. We expect that trend to continue as families find ways to gather safely and share meals – all while staying comfortable and cozy.
The outdoor space truly became a destination this year and people are still making investments. Between our long outdoor season and the continuing coronavirus pandemic threat, we are continuing to build outdoor gathering spaces for our clients. We can build almost year-round in our area, so it’s not too late to have your dream (outdoor) kitchen!
